Thank you for your interest in becoming a patient of Sophia Health Institute!
To streamline the intake process as much as possible, we have compiled answers to many Frequently Asked Questions. If what you read below works for you please schedule a telephone interview using the link at the bottom of this message that reads, “Schedule Your Phone Interview Now.”
If I become a patient, what will be expected of me?
We ask our patients to be willing to engage with all facets of the healing work we do. This includes a willingness to work with the Five Levels of Healing, as sometimes healing on deeper layers is needed for physical healing to fully occur.
We also ask patients to strive for a positive attitude. It’s not unusual to feel worse at times during treatment as issues are addressed and work with you to get your detox systems supported. A positive attitude is extremely helpful. Studies show negative emotions adversely affect the body’s ability to heal.
It is extremely important to have the financial ability to continue treatment for an estimated two years. Coming for one week is not an option, as the physicians work in layers; repeat visits are needed to adjust your protocol and keep your system progressing on its healing journey.
Will I be a patient of Dr. Klinghardt?
Dr. Klinghardt does not accept new patients directly. You will be seen by a naturopathic physician personally trained by Dr. Klinghardt via his extensive residency program. Based on your personal results, your SHI physician may ask for a consult with Dr. Klinghardt if deemed medically necessary.
Is medical care at Sophia Health Institute (SHI) covered by insurance?
Sophia Health Institute does not bill insurance and is not affiliated with any insurance company or program. SHI is not a provider for Medicare or Medicaid.
Superbills are available upon request for you to submit to your insurance company for claim processing. Insurance claims are sometimes paid at the Out of Network rate if you have naturopathic care in your policy.
How much does it cost?
Although the exact amount cannot be determined, most patients coming from a distance spend between $5,000 and $7,000 for their first comprehensive week at SHI, and between $8,000 and $11,000 for two weeks. This estimate includes:

Is SHI an inpatient facility?
SHI is an outpatient facility. Medical care is available 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday (except Holidays). SHI is not open weekends.
How long will it take me to heal?
We ask patients to allow an estimated two years for treatment. Actual length of treatment depends on the following factors:
Your body’s toxic burden
Your body’s response to therapies
Other factors such as needed dental work, environmental issues, etc.
Your willingness to address other levels of healing if necessary
What lab tests do I need?
All patients are asked to provide basic fasting blood work and a panoramic x-ray of the jaw prior to their first visit.
What is ART?
ART is short for Autonomic Response Testing. It is a form of muscle testing developed by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt. ART is our main diagnostic tool.
It is extremely important to be familiar with and accepting of Dr. Klinghardt’s method of muscle testing. Please explore the links below for information on this important facet of our practice.

What are the protocols like? How will you treat me?
Each person presents with their own unique manifestation of complex chronic illness. No two protocols are the same, since each one is tailored specifically to individual patient needs.
While it is impossible to describe exactly what will be in your protocol, protocols often include supplements, homeopathic remedies, herbal remedies, a lot of detox support, IV therapies, neural therapy, chelation therapy, structural work, emotional work, environmental issues and dietary changes.
The following links speak to facets of Sophia Health Institute’s approach to complex chronic illness. Please note each patient is unique; your treatment will be tailored to your own body’s needs.
